Dick Smith OSC Box
This is a project that goes back to Australia once more. Feeling at a loss of things to do in the long evenings ( no TV and too hot for anything else ), I put together this VCO box based on the cheep and very cheerful Dick Smith Osc kit.

I didn't know what I was aiming to achieve, other than a battery powered toy, but it ended up being a source of great sounds.

The FM input doesn't scale to 1volt/octive but that didn't really worry me to much as an analogue sequencer works fine on this little beauty. The wave outputs are tri, sine, square and the ranges are from about 3 Hz to well over 20,000 Hz in three overlapping stages. I should have another play around with this project and maybe add Osc sync and extra FM and AM inputs if possible, but that would mean running out of room in the case which is already quite cramped. To see what even more vco would sound like I put together a quick reaktor patch together which I've included on this page. Although its not quite the same sound as the original it dose give yo an idea of the type of sounds it produces.

Maybe its time to make a second larger Osc Box possibly with 4 or 5 VCOs until then have a listen to the Mp3 ( the first sound is quite shrill, my girlfriend said it made her want to smash something. You've been warned! ), and maybe have a look at the Dick Smith web site make one your self.
